Tanoto Foundation’s BEACON program, which stands for Be Empowered and Active to Contribute to the Nation, seeks to holistically develop the generation of leaders as future-ready global citizens who meaningfully contribute to their communities and countries. The program comprises structured leadership development training, opportunities for experiential learning, networking and community service, in addition to tuition grants via the scholarship.

BEACON has a structured leadership development program comprising training and workshops aimed at sharpening the soft and leader ship skills of Tanoto Scholars. Conducted by professional trainers, the program exposes scholars to broader concepts and cases in leadership and service. There is also an annual gathering for Tanoto Scholars past and present, in which scholars not only get to network but also hear from specially invited speakers who are leaders in the public service and private sector. The scholars also get to engage and network with a larger Tanoto scholars family globally through various platforms.

BEACON’s flagship annual scholar led community service Project Sukacita provides an invaluable experience for our Tanoto Scholars through the service of lesser privileged communities in Singapore and overseas. Every Project Sukacita delegation works closely with the Foundation and previous delegations, collating and analyzing data to design programs appropriate for the beneficiary communities and in line with the local sustainable development goals.

We partner reputable institutions of higher learning such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU) to support and steer our Tanoto Scholars’ journey of growth. Program graduates not only earn their degrees but also hone and acquire broader capacities and skillsets while building a stronger network of Tanoto Scholars in Singapore and beyond. Graduates from the program have gone on to be leaders in their respective fields and communities in various industries, such as medicine, business, finance/banking, IT etc.

I was given the platform to improve my communication skills and become a more effective leader through the Tanoto Scholars Leadership Program in December 2019. This program has shaped me to become much more outspoken and I feel more confident in voicing out my views to my peers as well as my tutors.

SMU, 1ST YEAR, LAW

Lin YongHui

I hope to be able to give back to the community both in the capacity of a law student and a Tanoto Scholar, to join the School of Law Outreach Club in providing Pro-Bono services, as well as involve myself heavily in Project Sukacita as an organising team member.

Leadership Development Training and Workshops

We believe in the importance of equipping our future leaders with knowledge and skills to lead effectively and responsibly, so that they are able to make a positive impact in the communities in which they live and work. To develop these critical leadership competencies, we provide Tanoto Scholars with a structured leadership development journey through a series of workshops throughout the course of their undergraduate studies.

Project Sukacita

Through this annual ground-up community service project, Tanoto Scholars work together to volunteer and contribute towards enhancing the quality of health and education of the under-privileged communities in Singapore and beyond. Through this experience, Tanoto Scholars are also able to hone their leadership skills, gain regional exposure and network, which are all crucial to prepare them for their future careers.

Tanoto Scholars Annual Networking

Tanoto Scholars Annual Networking (TSAN) is an annual event aimed at forging stronger bonds among Tanoto Scholars and alumni in Singapore. At the event, Tanoto Scholars come together to meet the Tanoto family, welcome new scholarship recipients and network with one another. In addition, the scholars also have the opportunity to further engage and learn from our distinguished speakers on various topics such as leadership and the importance of lifelong learning.
