Tanoto Foundation Supports Indonesian Government’s Effort to Combat Covid-19 with Donation to BNPB

Tanoto Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded by Sukanto Tanoto and Tinah Bingei Tanoto, provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to doctors and health workers on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.

PPE is a vital requirement for the medical workforce to help ensure their protection against the virus as they work to protect others.

Tanoto Foundation donated 1 million medical masks, 1 million medical gloves, 3,000 surgical goggles and 100,000 protective suits for health workers. The donation was handed over to Doni Monardo, Head of The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) and Chair of Indonesia’s COVID-19 Task Force. In collaboration with BNPB, the donation will be distributed to hospitals in Jakarta, Medan and Pekanbaru.

Tanoto Foundation’s advisor, Sihol Aritonang, speaks in the Indonesia’s COVID-19 Task Force media center in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/4).

“Tanoto Foundation wants to help doctors and medical staff at risk of contracting COVID-19 through this donation of PPEs, which is a vital need in this time of emergency. For us, their willingness and their courage is a true form of heroism in this difficult time. We are sure that we can fight this together. We are praying for the people of Indonesia,” said Tanoto Foundation’s Global CEO, Satrijo Tanudjojo.

Doni Monardo thanked Tanoto Foundation for its support in the joint effort to combat COVID-19. “We realize that the medical force on the front line of combating COVID-19 badly needs proper PPEs so they can work safely,” he said.

Satrijo added that bringing the equipment to Indonesia was challenging as the virus has disrupted supply chains and cargo delivery. Tanoto Foundation chartered an aircraft to fly the cargo from the factory in China to Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport on Thursday (2/4/2020) and Friday (3/4/2020). The remaining donation totalling 30 tons will be flown in by Garuda Indonesia’s Boeing 777-300 chartered flight on April 11th, 2020.

“This delivery was made possible by the collaboration and support of the Indonesian Government and the relevant agencies. So we’d like to offer our gratitude to BNBP, Ministry of Transport, Customs and Excise, Halim Perdanakusuma’s Aviation Security, Indonesian Air Force and Garuda Indonesia who have worked incredibly hard to help us ensure that the delivery flight can land in Indonesia and also for helping us unload the goods, disinfecting and ensuring all of them safely make it to Indonesia.”

Tanoto Foundation hopes the arrival of the equipment will help the country in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.

In providing this support, Tanoto Foundation collaborated with RGE, a global group of resource-based manufacturing companies.
